Delicious food! I had a build your own pizza, the truffle fries, and the Busted Knuckle Porter. It was all delicious. As we walked inside, we were greeted with a pleasant wood smell - most of the interior is exposed wood framing. The atmosphere was fairly quiet, and the servers were very friendly. It is worth nothing that their pizza is above average, especially the crust and cheeses.
The food was excellent with us ordering the featured pimento burger with candied bacon and a pulled pork sandwich with with maple bourbon sauce. Even better than the food was our server, Grace. If every company could have an ambassador like Grace greet all of their customers, everybody would be happy. Grace not only knows the menu well but she told us things about the restaurant that we didn't know such as that the timbers used in the construction of the restaurant came from trees that were cut down when constructing the Big Woods Distillery in Nashville. My partner, who is an architectural engineer, was already looking at the construction and marveling at how well it was done and how solid the facility was when Grace further shared that wooden pegs were used in the construction. The Big Woods/QuaffOn beers are always good with a diverse lineup. My partner's favorite is the Peanut Butter Busted Knuckle Porter. We will revisit soon.
It's been a few years since I've been in this part of Speedway, and it's certainly had some more development in that time. Luckily it was a slow night so I found a parking spot on the street right out front, but I can imagine this would be more of a feat on a busier evening. Service here was great. All of the liquor here is Hard Truth - I wasn't partaking this evening but I thought it was an interesting thing to note as someone in my party was hoping for a Captain and Coke, but that wasn't an option. The server was helpful in figuring out a suitable replacement though! My burger was really good -- nothing particularly mind-blowing, but I don't expect that from a burger. Overall a really great experience. Service was great, food was great, the space itself was open and inviting. The Speedway location is a bit far out for me, but the experience was good enough that I'll have to visit a closer location in the near future.
Went for lunch with some coworkers; group of 6 of us. Sat outside on the spacious patio. Looks like a fun place to have adult beverages, which we didn't do. But they have a variety of beer and wine and a ful bar. Split the large pretzle and egg roll appetisers, both were tasty, as was my pulled pork sandwich. I upgraded to the truffle aioli fries. They were good but messy -- lots of powered parmasean on them, and not enough aioli to hold it on. Still, a #yum #ReviewsByRL
Would have given 5 stars, but the cookie skillet had a small and THIN cookie. Fish and chips were ok. BUT the Thai steak tacos were excellent. Served with elote corn....aka Mexican street corn.... Very tasty
Residents and race fans love having this visually impressive, timber framed 7,000 square foot restaurant with wonderful food and servers in Speedway, Indiana. Big Woods is located on the corner of Main and 10th Street in the historic downtown Speedway. Big Woods is located where Main Street T's into 10th Street directly across from Allison's. This is a strikingly beautiful rustic structure with large wooden beams, an open 2 story ceiling, comfy large booths, and the bar was designed in the shape of the IMS 500 track. Reservations are accepted EXCEPT for same-day reservations. Still show up as you never know how quickly things tables can turn over . There are 2 small parking lots surrounding Big Woods, with one to the west and entrance off of 10th Street and another by the beer garden with an entrance off of Ford Street or 10th Street. Parking is available on both sides of Main Street (except during the IMS 500 and Brickyard 400 race weekends). Big Woods has a cute covered patio with regular 4-top tables and several high-tops, which are perfect for people-watching. My only wish is for a dog-friendly patio on NON- RACE RELATED days. Of course, service dogs (meeting ADA requirements) are ALWAYS ALLOWED. The menu has many delicious options from the pulled pork nachos, chili, pizzas, fish, and chips, pulled pork sandwiches with my favorite truffle fries, burgers, portobello melt, Thai steak tacos to the Thai vegan red curry. The curry is very spicy, so be warned before ordering. However, if Thai spicy is your thing, I think you'll truly enjoy the vegan option with excellent flavors and fresh veggies. I also love the chocolate chip skillet cookie with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce for dessert or the Nashville Fried Biscuits with apple butter and Hard Truth Toasted Coconut Rum sauce. Be sure to ask what the daily dessert choice is as it changes. Our server, Bobby C, was a pleasure the second he arrived at our booth. That big, happy smile and personable attitude was the perfect beginning to lunch. He and Lou did an amazing job! Thank you!! Remember, their are only two large races during the season at IMS, so don't let this keep you away from Speedway or dining at Big Woods. Big Woods is a wonderful location for large groups or celebrations.
Recently tried Big Woods in Speedway. Had the fish sandwich. It was passable, but not great. The waitress was highly recommending the mac & cheese, but my dining partner ordered one of the taco dishes. Though she decided that since the waitress was talking up the mac & cheese, she would add a side of it. However there was a misunderstanding and the order was put in as mac & cheese as the entree only. I tried it and it was good but again not outstanding. The restaurant was nice and spacious. Waitress was extremely attentive and talkative. Seems like an OK place for lunch, but I can't say the food is drawing me back.
Big woods nachos are the best I've ever had. The perfect amount of toppings to chop ratio! The service is always great. The staff is quick to give suggestions and answer any questions! This location is in speedway - walking distance to the track! The ambience is low lighting and good vibes. They have local beers from Indiana too!
First time visiting Big Woods with family. We stopped by on a cold Friday afternoon with a large group of 11 people. It was right around lunchtime and I assumed we'd have a wait, but lucky for us we were seated almost immediately. The restaurant is large and spacious. Unfortunately, we were seated in the way back by the outside doors, which were opened frequently by staff during our visit. Our server was attentive and nice. Got drink orders quickly and took then took our order. We started with the signature pulled pork nachos and cheesy bread for the kids. The breadsticks were loaded with cheese and the dipping cheese sauce (queso) was really good too. The kids devoured the breadsticks. They arrived quickly too, which is always a plus. The nachos were good, nothing special about them but the table was happy. I ordered the Asian chicken salad ($16.99) with grilled marinated chicken, Asian salad blend, candied cashew and pickled carrot. I don't remember the pickled carrot, but I know there were large chunks of raw brussel sprouts that I didn't eat on the salad. Overall it was an okay salad but I probably wouldn't order it again due to the raw sprouts. My kids ordered the butter pasta and kids pizza. The pizza was really good and seasoned well. Everyone left happy and full.
This is a fun spot for a casual meal with friends! We have been here before and appreciate that they change their menu up at times to add/edit things and keep it fresh. They have staples but also some fun options that are new. Given a non-restricted diet right now I went for man n cheese side and a side salad. The sides were quite big considering, and it made a full meal! I loved that on the salad they had a variety of veggies as well as pickled carrots. Yum! The Mac n cheese was absolutely amazing and creamy, rich and decadent! I can't imagine what their full portion is like, but this side dish was delightful and just right in size. My husband had the portobello sandwich and fries and loved them, and said he especially appreciated the crispness of the fries. Our friends had a burger and the veggie egg roll, and also seemed to like their meals. Nothing was left on any plates if that tells you something! I can recommend this sport for a light lunch or casual meet up spot, and we were even able to sit outside and enjoy the nice fall breeze. A definite return spot for us.
